In the wake of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal announcing the sold-out Susie Arioli concert, fans can look forward to enjoying two additional concerts from this authentic, jazz-steeped artist. These new concerts will be presented as part of the Jazz All-Year Round series on November 12 and 13, 2009 in L’Astral, the intimate new venue in the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan. A lovely surprise!

The Susie Arioli concert, presented Saturday, July 4 at 6 p.m. as part of the En voix Rio Tinto Alcan series, will be the breakthrough concert for the popular jazz singer—with Théâtre Maisonneuve in Place des Arts already sold out, and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal presenting her with the 2009 Oscar Peterson Award 2009. The prestigious award will be presented to her by Laurent Saulnier, vice president of Festival programming, during a press briefing schedued for today, July 2, at 1 p.m. in the pressroom (Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, 305 Ste. Catherine St. W.). The trophy will also be presented to the artist onstage at the end of her concert.

Susie Arioli is the 21st artist to receive the Oscar Peterson Award, created on the 10th anniversary of the Festival in 1989 to salute a Canadian musician who has made outstanding contributions to jazz in this country and for the quality of his art.

As recipient of the Oscar Peterson Award, Susie Arioli follows in the footsteps of Dave Young (2008), François Bourassa (2007), Yannick Rieu (2006), Bernard Primeau (2005), Diana Krall (2004), Kenny Wheeler (2003), Lorraine Desmarais (2002), Moe Kofman (2001), Charles Biddle (2000), Maynard Ferguson (1999), Guy Nadon (1998), Rob McConnell (1997), Nelson Symonds (1996), Michel Donato (1995), Paul Bley (1994), Fraser MacPherson (1993), Vic Vogel (1992), UZEB (1991), Oliver Jones (1990) and, of course, Oscar Peterson (1989).
